PrettyLitter Review: Does It Really Work? + Happy Halloween
I partnered with PrettyLitter to try their health monitoring cat litter. Here's what I thought!
Meow, hello and welcome to an all-new edition of my newsletter. This week, I’ll be sharing my thoughts and meows on PrettyLitter, an innovative cat litter that can change colors and help detect certain health problems.
Plus, I’m excited to share this photo of me in my spider Halloween costume. It’s scary how good I look!
PrettyLitter - A health monitoring cat litter
My mom first heard about PrettyLitter from podcast advertisements, but at the time, did not want to pay for a more premium litter. PrettyLitter is not like your typical cat litter on the market. This color changing litter may help detect certain health problems in cats—possibly before your cat even shows any noticeable symptoms.
So, I was all ears when my mom said that we were partnering with PrettyLitter to give them a try. They kindly sent us four bags of Original PrettyLitter to get a full assessment, along with some other goodies.
First impurr-essions
When my mom first cleaned my litter box and added PrettyLitter, I found it to be very soft and cozy on my paws. I instantly hopped in the box and started to dig around. My mom even captured this moment and shared it on my TikTok (@luketherescuecat):
How it works
PrettyLitter changes colors based on the acidity and alkalinity of cat urine, and may be able to tell you about potential health problems such as blood in the urine, urinary tract infections, or kidney issues that need to be addressed by your veterinarian.
PrettyLitter reacts to the pH of your cat's urine. When urine comes in contact with the litter, it can turn orange, green, blue, or if there is noticeable blood present in the urine you will see red on the white litter. When the litter is olive green to yellow, your cat's urine is within the typical range. - via PrettyLitter
After several cleans, my mom was delighted to find that my waste was consistently in the healthy olive green to yellow range, and the litter did not alert us to any health problems over the last two months.
The pros
I really appreciate the health information that PrettyLitter provides. Cats are known for hiding pain and discomfort when there are health issues that need to be addressed.
The litter changed colors as advertised, and it gave my mom peace of mind that I’m a healthy boy at the moment. The litter was also super soft and did not track very much compared to other litters.
The cons
Even though my mom maintains my litter box every morning, she found there were still more odors with this litter than other brands. However, this litter box is kept downstairs out of the way, and it’s maintained regularly, so it does not get too bad.
We also found that the Original PrettyLitter is not compatible with my new self-cleaning litter box from CATLINK, which I previously reviewed here.
The self-cleaning litter box has two filters for clumping cat litter, and the Original PrettyLitter is non-clumping. However, they do offer a clumping version and a scented “Lotus Flower” litter. Visit their website prettylitter.com to learn more about their different options. They have a Spooky Sale running now through October 31st, 2024, with 20% off and a free toy!
